How does the overload behaviour of power supplies work?
All PULS power supplies have outputs that are overload-proof, short-circuit-proof and no-load-proof. No external fuse is required on the output to protect the power supply.
What is overshoot in a power supply?
Overshoot is the amount by which the output voltage exceeds its static value when there is a rapid change in the load or in the input voltage or when the input voltage is connected.
How does overtemperature protection function in power supplies?
Overtemperature protection causes an emergency shutdown. It prevents thermal damage being caused to a switch-mode power supply or a failure of isolation as a result of excessively high temperatures.
How is the ambient temperature of a power supply defined?
The ambient temperature is the air input temperature two centimetres below the power supply.
What does UPS mean?
A UPS or uninterruptible power supply is a power supply with VRLA batteries or capacitor storage that can supply the connected devices with power for a specific period in the event of a power failure.
What is a VDE 0160 pulse?
A VDE 0160 pulse is a high-energy voltage pulse that can occur in the mains voltage of industrial networks (e.g. when shutting down large loads or after short circuit currents have subsided).
What are VRLA batteries?
Valve-regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries are sealed batteries fitted with a safety valve that allows the gas produced by overcharging or a cell fault to escape.
What does efficiency mean in the context of power supplies?
The efficiency value is the ratio of the output power to the input power of a power supply. The difference between the input and output power is converted as power losses into heat.
What is an X capacitor?
These capacitors are approved for suppressing radio interference and are installed between the phase and the neutral wire or between the phases. They provide protection against differential mode interference.
What is a Y capacitor?
These capacitors are approved for suppressing radio interference and are installed between the phase(s) and the housing or protective earth wire or between the neutral wire and the housing or protective earth wire. They provide protection against common mode interference.
