What is the daisy chaining of power supplies?

Daisy chaining is a wiring scheme where several power supplies are connected in sequence.  It is used to achieve a higher total current.

If the wiring of a power supply system is designed in this way, the wiring is not star-shaped. Instead the current passes along one linear or ring-shaped wire until it reaches the load.

It is important to check the datasheet for the specific type of power supply before designing a power supply system using the daisy chain method. The outputs of some power supplies cannot be directly connected. If you ignore this warning, it can put safety at risk.

Care must also be taken with the load on the terminals: The maximum specified current of the terminal must not be exceeded, including in the last device. The exact figures are given in the product datasheets of the relevant PULS power supplies.

As a rule, devices with double terminals are best suited to daisy chaining. Most PULS power supplies are fitted with these as standard.
